Child Custody Laws in California?

Hi I’m a 17 year old female who lives in southern California. I have been living with my dad for the past two years and have supervised visits with my mom.
How could I change custody from my dad to my aunt and uncle? They live in Utah and would love to take care of me for the next year until I am 18. Can I do this legally without having to bring in lawyers? My parents are going through a nasty divorce thats lasted for the past 6 years.
Thanks so much!

“The system instead favors a "clean-cut" approach, in which the non-custodial parent disappears from the child’s life as if that parent never existed.” International Family Lawyer Jeremy Morley (Family Law in Japan) 80 percent of the time the mother is the custodial parent in a divorce and when perents never marry, than the mother is the custodial parent by default, unless she does not want the child. The custodial parent does not get child support from the other parents over 80 percent of the time.

Divorcing Parents Should Need A Great Legal Team

Divorcing Parents Should Need A Great Legal Team

Going through a divorce is stressful, overwhelming, and can even be tragic. Divorce is one of the most stressful events a person will likely endure in his or her lifetime. It takes the focus of a professional team to keep a person going through divorce on the right track. Without the aid of a good team of lawyers, a person can be taken advantage of and even lose custody of his or her children.

Going through divorce requires special care and attentiveness. The best thing you can do for yourself during this time is to hire a family law attorney that will be with you every step of the way. Allow your attorney to handle the complexities of your divorce, while you try to get the rest and relaxation you need to make it through this tough time.

Divorce attorneys will approach you and your case with the utmost sensitivity, care, and compassion. When it comes time to fight, however, a divorce attorney is willing to do whatever it takes to fight for you and your children.

All too often, a divorce can turn into a legal battle over children. Child custody battles can be intense and overwhelming without the right lawyer helping you. It is better to hire an attorney with a specialization in family law that can fully help you during such intense battles.

Attorneys with a specialized knowledge in handling divorces know exactly what legal strategies to employ in assuring that you are the rightful parent with custody of your children. An attorney that is inexperienced in handling the negotiations that occur in a child custody battle can cost you your children. It is worthwhile to invest in hiring the best team of lawyers possible to help you fight your case to the end.

Sometimes, even when two spouses seem to agree on everything in a divorce proceeding there can still be problems. All of a sudden, child visitation rights may become a sore and sensitive issue. Maybe one parent is uncomfortable having the kids around the alcoholism of another parent, even if the kids only see the parent every other weekend.

In this case, a parent can count on an articulate family law attorney to fight for his or her wishes. The worst scenario possible would be that your child could still visit with a parent dealing with alcoholism issues due to a lack of legal preparation or legal professionals handling the case.

Some people going through divorce think they the proceedings are relatively simple, so they do not need a lawyer. Or, maybe they are financially struggling and believe they can not afford an attorney. Not hiring a lawyer due to these reasons is a mistake that can last forever.

First off, legal divorce proceedings can become very complex even with the most agreeable of spouses. Secondly, many family law attorneys are willing to work with people that can not financially afford to hire a lawyer. Hiring a great legal team to handle your divorce case will be the best decision you make in your lifetime.

Family Law Child Custody transportation/relocation protocols?

I’m sure it different from state to state, but from either personal exp. or any lawyers do you know what is customary for transportation for visitation when the parents live 300 miles apart?

Does the non-custodial parent have more responsibility for picking them up and dropping them off? Are they both responsible to meet 1/2 way???

Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks.

Also, in our situation there are no previous court orders or anything legally established. Which is why I’m wanting to research what is customary with the courts so I can plan to know what to expect.

What do parents usually fight about before they get a divorce?

I’m afraid my parents might get a divorce because they’ve been fighting a lot lately, and I want to know some things that cause parents to argue over and finally get a divorce.

How to find out if a divorce document is legal or not?

My parents had split up 3 years ago after 18 yrs of marriage. My dad moved out the same night after an argument. 1 year later, my dad hands my mother a document stating thats the divorce paper. Yet again, she had never gone to a court, nor received any kind of documents by mail, nor signed ANY kind of document before. We went to several courts, but they all say that we ahve to go to a lawyer. Each lawyer that i call wants to charge me. How to find out?

child support and custody question?

My daughter is 4, her father and I were never married. We are no longer together, I live with my daughter in a house with my parents and two younger siblings. He lives with his parents. I’m 22 he’s 23. When we split we made a verbal agreement about when she would visit him and how much he would pay me each week. She would stay with him Tuesday nights and Friday night or Saturday Morning to Sunday evening. And he would pay me 50 a week. We’ve kept this up, but now he is pushing for her to be taken to Fl with his parents during Christmas when we already had an agreement about Christmas. I said no and all he keeps saying is we’ll see.
Yesterday a friend who works with his sister told me that she, him and their parents have gotten their passports and that my ex had went and gotten a copy of my daughters birth certificate. This friend also told me that my ex’s sister was asking about custody and child support and talking to family law lawyers.
I’m afraid they might try to take her from me and/or out of the country. They are from mexico. Today I went and filed for court ordered Child Support. When or how long will it take for him to be notified that I did this? I’m also trying to get a lawyer so that I can try to get custody of my daughter before they try to because they have more money than I do.
I just went and filled out the application today at dss. I dont know who’s serving him. I have to go back in two to three weeks
