I have been separated from my husband for 5 yrs now,we have 2 kids the first 6 months of the separation was due to domestic violence against me so the judge ordered supervised visits for him ,gave me temp custody and made him pay child support for 6 months and told us both to get attorneys to handle it after that well we never did he paid the support for 6 months and then it got sporadic until he met his now girlfriend and he has not paid support in 4 yrs but i still let him see the kids if and when he did show up because they loved him sometimes he would not call or show for months,he has been homeless through ten jobs and now has 2 babies to care for w/ new gf well this spring break after he knew I spent all my tax money on getting my kids new beds and clothes because he doesn’t support them he ask if he could get them for the week so I said yes he said they would be in town at his sister well the next day dss showed up to investigate me for being on drugs and a pigstye house well they saw my house was spotless and I passed my test well he has taken them 5 hours away same st s.c. away gotten an attorney has them out of school they are all honor students and wont let me have them back,the one time he did let them call they begged me to get them , I have no money for a lawyer I pay my bills and have raised this kids on my own I make to much for legal aid forty dollars to much but not enough money to give a lawyer thousands of dollars and yes I did call and beg and all i hear is sorry we cant help please some one tell me how to fight this I also have 2 older kids 12 and 14 i don’t know where he has them I am helpless and desperate the law says we are both custodial parents and decide in court but they have lived w/ me for 5 yrs and he just ups and takes them

They are 6 and 7,social services is on my side but we cant find him to serve him with truancy papers much less anything else,I called every family law lawyer they all say it cost any where from three to five thousand…………. thanks for the support but I think it is going to take a miracle at this point

I have a friend who was arrested because her ex filed charges against her when she moved away with their child. He was emotionally abusive and since their relationship was convicted of domestic violence. Unfortunately because she did not have full custody he reported her as having "kidnapped" their child. THis person stole from her while she was pregnant and had no interest in raising the child except to try to toture her. She has been moved to Cali even though she was in Pennsylvania at the time. Her older child is in PA with family, her young child is with His mother in Ohio (he can’t even care for her himself) and she has lost her home, her job, her car and family. I believe it will work out but she needs a good lawyer and meanwhile her kids are stranded across the country. This is an outrage and nothing can give back to her the innocence lost. Any advice would be helpful.

Wow, I asked a serious question and amused_observer was just rude, and insensitive. Obviously there are many avenues for free legal help and that was the percise reason I posted this question. I thought I could get a response from someone who may have been in a similar situation and had some luck in getting legal aid. Thank you for the advice on picking up a **** phone book that was great along with the dripping sarcasm that I must be too lazy to do that. Your sympathy for the situation was obvious and your comments show your ignorance.. amazing.

my little girl is in foster care under a voluntary measure i know i have full parental rights but i feel social works got me to Sign papers that went explained to me i have a learning disability and feel social works took advantage of that also i have asked if my daughter can stay with my mum as that were she was staying before i also feel that my mum wont get to see my daughter even though i have asked i also feel social works r using r using my depression as an excuse to keep my daughter in care i am getting better nd im taking my medication every day see my gp when required and my cpn every 2 weeks but i want to see a lawyer to but don’t know if ill get legal aid as my partner works full time but he isn’t my daughters dad i get incapacity benefit and dla also if i went to a lawyer bout this will it make things worst all i want is my daughter to be with her family

Is family law the most stressful and frustrating practice are for lawyers?

I am a new attorney who has been practicing about six months now. I do primarily family law cases, and it seems like whatever I get for my clients they’re still not happy. They expect me to get them every single things they want no matter how unreasonable. Any other family law attorneys experienced this?
My clients don’t pay me. I work for legal aid.

How do you get a divorce without an lawyer?
I need an divorce and I have little money I heard that I can do it without one(lawyer) but if there’s anyone who knows how to PLEASE let me know.
legal aid was no help
and do i need him around to do this
i have a tpo against him ( he’s dangerous) so i don’t want him with me to do it i just need this done.

Family Law Lawyers that do not need a deposit before they will HELP you?

I am hoping to find a lawyer that will help with my Family law problem that has been on going for 13 years now.
I live in Toronto now but for the last 11 years I was living in the USA. My EX wife has custody of our two boys one 18 the other 22.
The EX would not allow me access during these years and would not reduce my support amounts even when I was not working. She also would not talk to me during the 13 years or even NOW. Because of this neither of my sons talk to me thinking it was ME who walked away and left them when in fact the mother is the one that didn’t allow me to take them even when I was willing to fly them back and forth.
Coming back to Canada to care for my sick Father, getting a job here in toronto I get slapped with this HUGE amount of back support. This is due to the amounts I was sending directly to her while I was in the USA she didn’t tell the family support office here.
IS THERE a Lawyer that will take this case without me having to pay them upfront? HELP
Legal Aid will not take my case because I am working.*making more then 40,000.00
I am paying my current support but that is NOT paying down what they are calling arrears.
Yes I have my back payment stubs and banking info.
My living expences and support like most everyone leaves me living pay check to pay check.
I would pay a lawyer for their time just like any other Bill gets paid just can’t do it in lump sums * most want a min of 3000.00 before they take the case.

Lets just clear this up.
UNDERSTAND MOTHER’S get legal councel from the court order of support. They NEVER have to pay a cent.
Fathers on the other hand if something needs to be changed
*support amount due to work or no work PAY a Lawyer
*Problems with access PAY A LAWYER
I am not talking about how to deal with this within the USA I am in Canada.
It can take months to get infront of a judge to hear the case yet months of backpayments pile up.
Why can’t the system treat Fathers as well as the mothers?
Why can’t lawyers understand a payment lump sum of 1000′s of dollars is not always possible?
The system is unfair ….

I make more than the required 125% poverty level to qualify for legal aid. I am afraid of going to court with my ex over child support modification. He will have a lawyer and I will not be able to assert my side of the decision process.

How does a person find a good divorce lawyer?

I would like one that comes well recommended, but have no one that I know that can provide a personal recommendation. I want to make sure that I have one with a good reputation & that will get things done right & professionally & that gets things done- I don’t want this dragging out forever. Looking in the yellow pages, there are SO many. I’ve heard divorce lawyer horror stories & don’t know where to start.
Is there a particular website I should go to look?
And I don’t know anything about ‘legal aid’.
Please expand on your answers, I really am starting from square one, & know nothing about this at all & need all the help I can get.
And, please let me stress again the fact that I know no one that can give me a personal recommendation – I’ve already checked with the people that I trust that are divorced (and there aren’t that many of them, believe it or not) or that knew of someone who was recently divorced, & they didn’t like their lawyers & did not recommend them. I’m not looking for a lawyer that is going to try to take my ex for everything. And I know my ex is going to try to take me for everything. I just want it done simply, & peaceably, & quickly- the least trouble possible, so that we can move on from this.
Sorry, I need to clarify on the additional details directly above. What i meant to say is that I am not looking to take my ex for everything, and I know that he is also NOT going to try to take me for everything. (Made a typo in the one prior, sorry)

Directly for FEYSUNNY- As all others that answered already realized, a general question such as ‘How to find a good divorce lawyer" does not require a state-specific answer. I didn’t ask about divorce LAWS, which would require such details. Next time you may want to take the time to pay attention BEFORE you challenge someone else’s IQ, lol. Have a great day!

I have a difficult child support case that i need legal representation in court. instead of the typical absenteee dad case its the absentee mom case.but im the typcial absentee mom either.so if anyone can help i thank you in advance
