I’m currently a college student with interest in becoming an attorney. Since my family doesn’t have much money, I’m very much interested in the LOSP.

How would I go about participating in this program? How can I become a lawyer without going to an expensive law school? And are there many lawyers or judges who would take me in to study under them?

I would love detailed instructions on how to go about this.

There’s a Judge in a small town in TN, he has never had schooling, or been a Lawyer, he’s been voted in simply because it’s been handed down through the family, now they’re going to elect a new Judge, who knows if any of them have any background in law, and as far as the law goes..it’s a joke too.. theres a guy running for "Sheriff" who’s a barber/cigarette shop owner, i don’t recall him ever having been an officer of the law a day in his life.
I can’t believe all this is legal, kinda makes you wonder what kinda country we got going here, is he gonna stop in the middle of a haircut to run out and catch the bad guy?
well it all spells out backwoods dirty politics to me, the guy was in and out of trouble, he was in reform school as a teenager, I was always under the impression to be a judge you had to have college, and law school, had to have been a lawyer and all that, kinda makes you wonder why go through all that if you can just get voted in.
I’m not from TN and my Nephew (who lives in Detroit) wanted to become a court officer, and they told him he’d have to go through schooling for that, something seems wrong with the system.
To the person who said this is one of our freedoms, true we are free to vote for who we think is the best person for the position, but it doesn’t mean it’s right that this guy just gets in because he has strings, and by doing none of the work and having the education of a real Judge.
I’ve seen more than a little corruption in this place, and I’m told just about every county in TN is basically corrupted.
This yr. he’s retiring, and I’m sure his bank acct. is pretty healthy, ohh i’ve sat and watched him run the court, keeping everyones bond money even when they’re found innocent, calling it "court costs" and imposing 00′s of dollar fines on people, and sometimes a same fine on a lesser charge..I’m pretty sure he’s been content to stay right where he’s at throughout his career .

I’m going into my sophmore year of college, and i’m so confused about what to do with the rest of my life. I’ve considered law school, it runs in the family, and i currently work for a lawyer after school. I’m just wondering, what skills do i need? what specifics should i know?

I have been with my husband for 4 years and he is finally finish his assocites degree. He told me yesterday a teacher of his said it’s almost impossible to have a family and do law school or be an attorny with a family. I love him very much and want to support him but I already feel like he has no time for my son and I. Can you have a close family and still be a lawyer?

But I don’t want to be. I’m already an accountant. But my family won’t leave me alone cause my grandpa was a judge, my father is an dentist, my sister is a pharmacist…apparently all we’re missing is a lawyer in the family. I thought I was gonna be saved cause my cousin was going to law school, but that piece of s*** decided to become a rabbi and now I’m the one on the spot. What can I do? To think that all I ever wanted to be is a mailman…

Your most likely thinking ‘what a stupid question’ but i just want to know for sure. I’ve been looking at all the different types of law, and seen that university’s have law courses. If i went to uni and did the law course, would i then have to go to law school..?

What would it do harm for a father to teach his child, that is just old enough to reed and write English, law. Basically, criminal law, common law, and family law, that you would learn in law school and how the criminal justice system works. This includes the same legal loopholes that defense lawyers use to set defendants free.

I’m ending my soph. year of college this year and I REALLY want to go to law school and it has been my plan since the end of highschool. Then I wanted to be some sort of civil rights lawyer but now i’m moving towards crimminal deffense, civil law, family, dipute resaloution just like a general everyday lawyer. However today i read that lawyers are very unhappy. the biggest reason for premature death of lawyers is suicde. so here is my question
1. Are lawyers unhappy with their job and if so why?
I also wondered how you start your own practice. I think thats what i really ultimatly want to do. Has anyone done that? How did you do it? I think mabye working in a big firm for 5 years and then starting my own.

In college now to be a history teacher, but that’s more of a back up because I think I want to go to law school and become a trial lawyer. I don’t really know any lawyers or have anyone in my family who is one, so can a few people more familar with the field let me what kind of person succeeds in law school and then later on in practice?

Looking at law school in both states however I know that I’d come out and eventually set up my own solo firm. Looking at a CBE school, it’s much cheaper than a bottom of barrel t4. Anyways any advice would be very helpful. I hope some attorneys out there can offer some words. I am interested in criminal law, family , personal injury, and immigration (spanish speaking and hispanic).
