I’m thinking about going to law school after I graduate. I will gradutate from college in May(I’ll be barely 22) then would go directly to law school & graduate from there when I’m around 25. I’m conflicted about when I would start a family if I did this. I plan on getting married after college and would likely not start a family until after law school. I know that the first few years after law school are tough; however, I’m not planning on being a big time lawyer or even a trial lawyer. I’m interested in the behind-the-scenes research area & would likely work at a business or small firm near where I live. So even though it would still be tough it won’t be quite as cut throat as what I’ve been hearing major firms in NYC are like LOL. Do you think it is possible to have a family a few years after law school? My question is mainly for people with direct experience with law & families not second hand info about someone who did something and it seemed hard

My husband & I bought a house 1 year ago. The title and mortgage under both names. He moved out to live with another woman, but agreed to divorce and let me have the house. We haven’t filed for divorce yet. I am concern about the house. Can I transfer the title and mortgage under my name? When will I do that, before divorce or after? I have 13 year-old daughter from my previous marriage.Please advise.

Readers Digest version: I have sole physical and joint legal custody of my 5 children. There is a Criminal Protective Order (C.P.O.)against my ex-husband in regards to myself my fiance (NO CONTACT except for peaceful exchange of children, must stay 100 yards away from us, residence, home, work, vehicles, ect). My ex and I have just come to a stipulated judgment agreement in regards to visitation, which is tricky to say the least with the C.P.O. in place. A brief overview of the visitation boils down to a gradual step up plan to every other weekend w/ overnight-er from Saturday PM thru Sunday PM (by years end). He is allowed to attend school functions and the kids sporting events, but must not speak to me and stay 10 feet away at all times (for school and games only). He is allowed to communicate w/ me via e-mail ONLY for the matters regarding the children & visitation. My question is this: SInce we do have JOINT LEGAL custody-do I have to add him to the childrens emergency cards at school (which would allow him to be notified and p/u kids in an emergency-which I do not think is a good idea). Is he allowed to just show up at the school and sign the, out and remove them? (None of these issues are addressed in the order). I would also like to know what does JOINT LEGAL custody really entail and what are my obligations?
Please advise quickly, must know before Monday when school starts.

I need help. My ex-husband is planning to visit although he hasn’t seen our 2 kids in two years (3 visits in 6 years) and doesn’t keep regular contact with them. How can I prevent him from seeing them until custody is finalized? We are pending court right now-he left long ago and now, because I got re-married, has cut child support so I had to file. Now, he wants to play father of the year and hasn’t even talked to the kids in months! The kids are 7 & 8, they were 1 &2 when he "dropped us off". If you can answer this, thanks. My ex will be here tomorrow! His lawyer just told me via e-mail like 30 minutes ago. He has two kids by two other women (ages 6 and 2) and has been remarried for two years himself. I just got married 6 mos. ago.
No, he didn’t get a wake-up call. I actually have an e-mail from him where he "hopes my new husband has deep pockets b/c his are done." Not to mention that I filed in January and he has called only 3 times since and he has NEVER seen his 6 year old…
The kids do not know him-he blows in for a week at a time every two years and spends limited time with them, then disappears for another two years and they wonder why for a little while and then forget about him because he won’t contact them. My husband has been with us for three of the six years and he is the only dad they know.

Ok Im going to try to make this a short one.

Im wanting to leave my husband, he is very verbally abusive and has a revengeful temper. we have a 14 mth baby together. I also have 2 other children, but they live with their father. I have been a stay at home home for a long time now, but iam out looking for a job now. Back to my husband….. He has a bad drinking problem and drug problem as well. He does carry a full time job, but when he gets off he comes home and hangs out in his shop with his buddies still 1-2am and we don’t see him until the next day. Im tired of the drugs and the drinking and feel i need a better life for me and my son. My husband has cheated on me, lied to me sooo many times, and betrayed me. He has done the most lowest things to me that I will never understand why he did them.
Im a great mother and a great wife, and I feel I don’t deserve what he has and what he is doing to me.
He has had 1 dui, Been arrested for growing weed in his home (this was before him & i got together) and he has also gotten a cdv for hitting his last girlfriend. So yea he doesn’t have a good past record. I could go on and on about what he has done to me, but I will get to the questions..

1. I don’t have no money.. So what would you suggest I do first?
2. Do I have to leave my Home, can I kick him out?
3. And how do I begin child support on him? He is also paying child support for his 5 yr old son too.
4. What will I need to get proof of? He owns a 2 story house that he rents out mthly, and he also has 3 boats and a 1969 camero and alot of other stuff. Im not looking to take him to the gutters, but what I have been through with him… By God I deserve something out of it…
5. Can I get a restraining order on him when I still live with him, but I sleep in a separate bedroom?
6. And do you suggest I pull a drug test on him? Because he will fight me, and he will fight me hard… His dad has lots of money because of the company he owns, that my husband works for.
7. And what about the custody of our child? Because I really don’t want him having our son, because of his drinking and drug use!

This certain lawyer in riverside ca. continues to have this certain judge reside in cases against a person I’m acquainted with whether it’s family law,criminal or civil. I find it peculiar & it seems like conflict of intrest. I need help on how to act upon it.
We have the ducuments on all this one time they even removed the court reporter & placed another. This judge placed my friend inconfinment & said my friend was incompetent 3mos. in jail & 3mos. in a mental lockdown facility, I had to hire an att. to have her released. The original charge were dropped in their intierty.
This judge took away costudy of her 8yr.old daughter & gave it to the father who is accused of child molestation of her daughter who was 11yrs. old at the time. The father has interfered with visitation orders & the judge told her if she wants to see her daughter she has to go to florida to see her. Where is the equal justice????

My long term disability benefits were cancelled after 14 years because the insurance company cherry picked two "good" visits I had with the psychiatrist this year (meaning, I wasn’t on the verge of suicide for once). It turns out that group long term disability policies fall under the federal law called ERISA and disability law under ERISA is a very, very specialized branch of law. Moreover, I have to get an attorney in the state where I became disabled (I live in Minnesota, I need a California lawyer). There is no way I can get a referral to someone good from someone I know & the only lawyer I have ever used in the past was a family lawyer for a minor matter. Social Security disability is a wholly different matter – I’m not looking for an SSDI attorney.

Any tips, other than feel them out in the initial consultation? Thanks for any advice!!
what I am looking for, is how do I know if they are a GOOD lawyer, as opposed to a mediocre one.

I had to leave california after a 5 year stay due to losing my fortune 500 job then moved back home temporary to Mississippi and this state sure does SUCK & is nothing like the "city of angeles".I had two jobs and was loving it because I kept money on me.I have received unemployment for about a year now due to the bad economy and I wanna get back to work and my best friend is pushing me to move to Atlanta but he is married and I am divorced and my wife and step kids are in Their home state of California.Is the economy better in Atlanta or is it true that Atlanta is Highly over rated like I was told In California.I just left from a tour in Atlanta and to be honest;That place feels just like being in Mississippi with all the trees and No sandy beaches,palm trees or mountains.I made .00 an hour in California with my two jobs added together.Is the money good in Atlanta as I work with Copiers and Fax Machines.All I saw in the ATL was alot of Tranny’s.Please help me decide because My brother is in L.A. as I speak and he told me that California was at ROCK BOTTOM and that Atlanta was not ranked as high as they once was.
