Is there a web site that out lines Family Law rulings for North Carolina?
I am doing research for my sister-in-law. She was never married to her ex-boyfriend and they have a son together. He pays child support when he faces jail time and now after not seeing or talking to his son for 2 years he’s threatening to take her to court for full custody. I want to find out what her rights are and his but all the search engines take me to lawyers sites. I need to find laws, statures, acts, and orders for the state of North Carolina.

Got these links from here http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/gascripts/Statutes/StatutesSearch.asp?searchScope=All&searchCriteria=custody&returnType=Chapter
All regarding N carolina statutes.
Thing is, when it comes to custody battles, each case is different and determinations need to be regarding each individual situation. He may have been paying child support but has not had any physical contact for 2 yrs. That doesnt sound like a man who wants full involvement in his sons’ life. Just because he is threatening to fight for full custody does not remotely mean he will get it. He may just be trying to scare her. And if he is just about to do jail time, that does not pose the proper parent in the eyes of the court.
Along with your research of the laws, she may still need to obtain some legal advice.

Good luck to you and your sister in law.
