Best place to live in Detroit for 30 year old single professional?
I am up for a promotion to Detroit, moving from Orange County, and I was curious where the best places would be to start looking to live. I am a professional, 30, divorced and am looking for something with easy access to stuff I am interested in. I am into the Punk/Rockabilly scene, dive bars, tattoos, old cars/motorcycles, etc… You know, basically something like Cali, only in Detroit, haha…
I appreciate the help!

I lived in the Detroit area all my life until I was 23, specifically in Royal Oak. When I was growing up, the place was a ghost town, but within the past 15 years, the place has drastically changed. It’s pretty much the hangout for the whole metro area, with tons of diversity. You’ll see everybody from goths to preps to jocks to yuppies to bikers… pretty cool to see them all in one place. There are towns that are really pretentious, some that are really blue collar… just depends what you want, but Royal Oak sounds good for what you want. Wednesday night are bike nights and all you see on Main Street are bikes. A great dive bar is Gusoline Alley on Center Street just north of 4th. Just south of Royal Oak is Ferndale, which is similar. Check it out….
