My fiancé’s & his ex-wife got scammed. Their “attorney” took the money and ran. How fast can they get divorced?
So it turns out the guy handling their divorce was a scam artist and not an attorney at all. They paid him 00 and tried to file in September 2007. The divorce was supposed to be finalized by March 2008. Now I am 3 months always from my Wedding, and it looks like they are still married.
How fast can they get a divorce? We all live in Southern California.
Thank you for your honest opinions. Actually the Letter for the DA’s office came to the house. That is how we found out about all of this. He an his ex are really trying to get this resolved as quick as possible.

Family Law Lawyer in chicago area?
I have a lawyer I do like for custody reasons but I seem not to be able to afford her because I am no longer getting the full help I use to from my daughter’s father. Does anyone know a custody lawyer in Chicago, IL that takes a payment schedule. He is only wanting her now on his time and failing to pay her child care on time as per our custody agreement. Since she has started kindergarten I want the residential custody to reside with me since she goes to my schools. Anyone can help? And I make too more than what is acceptable to get help from the state. I do well money wise but I have a mortgage and all the perks that come with it. I can take care of my daughter but he is started to basically make up his own time when he wants her vs what we agreed on. I am too timid to put my foot down. Any suggestions?

Why Is The Divorce Rate SO High Among CHristians?
The US Census Reports and US National Divorce Statistics at present show that the religious group with the highest divorce rate are Christians in particular the evangelical and southern baptist sects. Their rate of divorce is even HIGHER than couples professiing no relgious affiliation or to be atheist. Even more surprising its the conservative RED state- Texas and not California, New York or even Nevada that is the LEADING divorce state in the USA.
Now the reason I ask this is because CHristians LOVE to proclaim their religious standards of family life the HIGHEST ones. How come the facts don’t support this? Secondly, is their problem that they’ve completely outlawed pre-marital sex for their followers resulting in their young people getting married TOO young in order to have sex? After all, waiting till you finish college, get a job, house and then getting married will mean being celibate till you are around 25-29. That’s a LONG time when your hormones are at its peak. Opinions?
How does a person find a good divorce lawyer?
I would like one that comes well recommended, but have no one that I know that can provide a personal recommendation. I want to make sure that I have one with a good reputation & that will get things done right & professionally & that gets things done- I don’t want this dragging out forever. Looking in the yellow pages, there are SO many. I’ve heard divorce lawyer horror stories & don’t know where to start.
Is there a particular website I should go to look?
And I don’t know anything about ‘legal aid’.
Please expand on your answers, I really am starting from square one, & know nothing about this at all & need all the help I can get.
And, please let me stress again the fact that I know no one that can give me a personal recommendation – I’ve already checked with the people that I trust that are divorced (and there aren’t that many of them, believe it or not) or that knew of someone who was recently divorced, & they didn’t like their lawyers & did not recommend them. I’m not looking for a lawyer that is going to try to take my ex for everything. And I know my ex is going to try to take me for everything. I just want it done simply, & peaceably, & quickly- the least trouble possible, so that we can move on from this.
