I posted this under marriage/divorce and got one really great answer, looking for any more advice/info you all can give.

My good friend has sadly been blinded by love until recently. Her husband is a marine and is worth jack ****. It is a long story but in essence, he cheats on her, parties, spends money,never signed her up for ANY benefits- she doesn’t have an military ID and he is basically using her for marriage and seperation pay. I mean, even his mom told her to leave him. He is out of the military in August. What can be done here? Would reporting it to his CO do anything? How long would the process of divorce take (Orange County, CA)? He has openly said he won’t give her a divorce, I guarantee that is so he doesn’t lose his pay. Any advice would be much appreciated. I filed for divorse in 1998. We never signed the papers because my husband wouldn’t agree to the settlement. My attorney has since passed away. I have been told that in the State of California even if the papers aren’t signed, without contesting, the divorce will still be finalized. I moved back with my husband in late 2001 and now we are calling it quits for good. Can anyone tell me anything that would be helpful? Should there be something on file with the court?

I am afraid he is trying to get the divorce without my input. Will the courts let me know if something has been filed. If so what office in the courts should I approach. I originally filed for Divorce in California in the year 2000 and my wife filed a response within 30 days, successfully starting the divorce process. Since that time though, I have been unsuccessful in getting her to respond and proceed with the rest of the paperwork. What should I do?
